You may have noticed that our Advent wreath at church has a pink candle. And in case you were wondering, that particular candle is not pink because we simply ran out of blue candles and had to improvise! That pink candle has meaning. It signifies the third Sunday of Advent, which we call “Gaudate” Sunday. “Gaudate” is simply the Latin word for joy, so this upcoming Sunday is literally “Rejoice” Sunday. This is the Sunday in Advent when we intentionally, in the midst of our preparations for the day of our Lord’s coming, rejoice—where we take the time to remember to be joyful, even as we look forward to Christ’s long-anticipated arrival. So when you walk into the church this Sunday and see the pink candle lit, remember to be joyful as we await the coming of Christ!
